Video: Hey, Geriatric Millennial entrepreneurs, you can't ignore social media anymore

Watch this video from Amanda Gregory, a self-proclaimed “geriatric millennial who rocks a side part” on why people of her generation and Gen X can’t bury their heads in the sand when it comes to using social media to grow their business.

Transcript:

Hey, I’m Amanda Gregory. I want to talk a little bit today about why as somebody who is rocking a side part, and as somebody who was born analog, why I am here talking about social media and the reason is very simple.

So I am a marketer by trade. I have come up through the traditional marketing route. Back in my 20s used to do a lot of traditional tv ads. Have a bunch of fun stories too, will tell about that another day, but I have always been a marketer and I have always been curious and I think that that is partly what has kept me in the game, in the marketing game, which can be exhausting and tiring, is that I'm very curious.

I love to learn about people's businesses. I love to learn about how things work. And so, the reason I want to talk about social media is because of a few reasons. So one is that in the last year as I was doing some pro bono work helping small business owners with social media. I saw that there was a big need for help here.

Social media has not always been my primary area of marketing. It has been one of the things that I've stayed up with but I have been very interested especially in the last few years to see how much it has taken over the world of marketing.

So, anyway, the other big reason is I just see this fear, I guess, is the right word and especially in people around my age and then people who are maybe a little bit older and it's almost like a, oh my gosh, that's for the younger kids or I can just have my kid do it… Or I just don't even know how to touch it so I just don't do it.

So I am here to tell you right now. First of all, there is nothing to be afraid of second of all that excuse ain't going to cut it anymore. If you're a business owner, if you're trying to really market anything, you gotta be on social media. Even if it's just marketing yourself to put yourself forward as an expert to get that next job. So, I am here again, with my side part.

And as somebody literally born analog, I remember we had a dial-up computer. I want to say end of high school where you could like, do a AOL chat, So I was not born with this, I did not grow up with this. I have had to learn this stuff for myself too, and I'm here to tell you. You can do it too.

So I'm going to be doing a bunch of videos and talking about just things that are happening in social media. So if you are a Gen Z expert in social media, this is probably not going to be the place for you, but if you are, Gen X or an Elder Millennial, (I think I'm somewhere in between those two) and you've got questions about social media, even if it's going down to the basics, I am going to be covering them and talking a lot about some of the things that we do here at Kafen8, my business with clients, some of the things that we do to make things easier, faster, more efficient.

So, looking forward to all of you who are also born analog, and who are rocking your side parts to joining me as we do this series of videos.
